BENGALURU: Bengaluru Police have arrested Nikita Singhania, wife of Atul Subash, along with her mother, Visha Singhania, and brother, Anurag Singhania, in connection with Subash’s suicide. The arrests were made on Saturday, with Nikita detained in Gurugram and her mother and brother picked up from Prayagraj. The three accused have been sent to judicial custody.
Subash, 36, was found hanging in his apartment on December 9. He left behind a suicide note and a video accusing his wife and her family of harassment. According to the police, Subash was battling emotional distress due to a bitter divorce and child custody fight. The suicide note mentioned that the Singhanias had demanded ₹3 crore to settle cases against him and ₹30 lakh for visitation rights to see his son.
Before his death, Subash shared his note via email and WhatsApp and displayed a placard in his home that read, “Justice is due.”
Police Investigation
The Bengaluru Police began their probe by collecting evidence and visiting Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, where the Singhanias are originally from. Despite notices asking them to cooperate, the accused allegedly did not respond.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Harish Pandey said, “We gathered strong evidence before making the arrests. The allegations in the suicide note and video are being verified along with other findings.”
National Reaction
Subash’s death sparked national outrage, with many demanding justice and stricter laws against harassment in marital disputes.
The case is now focused on proving a connection between the financial demands made by the Singhanias and Subash’s suicide. Police have assured a fair and thorough investigation.
This tragic case highlights the need for quicker resolutions in marital conflicts to prevent such incidents in the future.
