To provide hassle-free, comfortable travel and better services to all genuine passengers on Western Railway, intensive ticket checking drives are being carried out continuously over Mumbai suburban local services, Mail/Express as well as passenger trains and holiday special trains to curb the menace of ticketless/irregular passengers. The highly motivated ticket checking team of Western Railway organised several ticket checking drives from April to October 2023, recovering an amount of Rs. 94.51 crore, including Rs.24.38 crore from the Mumbai Suburban section.
According to a press statement released by Shri Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, an amount of Rs.13.32 crore was recovered during the month of October 2023 through the identification of 2.17 lakh ticketless/irregular passengers, including unbooked baggage cases. In addition, following the identification of over 77,000 incidents in the Mumbai Suburban region, WR realised penalties of Rs.3.64 million in October. Frequent surprise ticket checking campaigns are conducted to prevent unauthorised access onto AC local trains. As a consequence of these campaigns, over 41500 unauthorised passengers were penalised from April to October 2023, and Rs. 136.74 lakhs in penalties were collected, which is approximately 86.73% more than the same time previous year.
