Western Railway (WR) has imposed a speed restriction of 30 km/h on all four railway lines—both UP & DOWN Slow and Fast lines—between Ram Mandir, Goregaon, and Malad stations. This speed restriction came into effect on 30th September 2024 and is part of the ongoing work for the 6th line between Goregaon and Kandivali stations.
Shri Vineet Abhishek, the Chief Public Relations Officer of WR, explained that the speed restrictions were necessary for testing a new signalling system. The speed limit will be lifted in stages.
The restrictions on the UP & DOWN Fast lines will be removed by Wednesday morning, 2nd October 2024.
Cancellations of suburban train services on the Fast lines will decrease from around 150 services to approximately 67.
Restrictions on the UP & DOWN Slow lines will be lifted by Friday morning, 4th October 2024. By then, all suburban services are expected to return to normal, except during scheduled block periods.
Shri Vineet also noted that the work on the 6th line between Goregaon and Kandivali is expected to be completed by this weekend, with a final block scheduled for that time. The project had taken a short pause during the Ganpati festival to minimize disruptions for commuters. Efforts are being made to finish the work before the Navratri festival begins.
Night Block at Goregaon Station
A major block of 4 hours will occur on the UP & DOWN Fast lines from 12:30 AM to 4:30 AM, along with a shorter block of 1.5 hours on all lines from 2:00 AM to 3:30 AM on the night of Tuesday, 1st October to Wednesday, 2nd October 2024.
During this time:
Fast local trains will run on the Slow line between Borivali and Andheri.
Mail and express trains may be delayed by 10 to 20 minutes.
Some suburban trains will also be cancelled or short-terminated during the block. Passengers are advised to check with Station Masters for more details.
