Western Railway Conducts Special Ticket Checking Drive, Recovers Over Rs. 4 Lakhs in Fines


Mumbai: In a bid to ensure hassle-free and comfortable travel for bonafide passengers, Western Railway conducted a two-day special ticket checking drive on 23rd and 24th August 2024, targeting AC local train services. This drive aimed to curb unauthorized travel and deter ticketless passengers, particularly during the busy morning and evening peak hours.

According to Shri Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the special drive was conducted by the ticket checking staff in collaboration with the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The effort resulted in the detection of 1,273 unauthorized passengers over the two-day period, with 595 passengers penalized on the first day and 678 on the second day. The fines collected from these offenders amounted to more than Rs. 4 lakhs.

Western Railway frequently conducts such drives to maintain the integrity of its ticketing system and improve services for law-abiding passengers. The recent two-day drive underscores the railway's commitment to preventing unauthorized travel and ensuring that all passengers have valid tickets. By conducting these surprise checks, Western Railway aims to send a strong message to potential fare evaders, emphasizing that unauthorized travel will not be tolerated.
