Voice Raised for Women's Safety - Women Protest at Churchgate Station


MUMBAI: The rise in incidents of violence against women across the country and in Maharashtra has created an atmosphere of insecurity. The rape and murder of a female doctor of RJ Medical College in Kolkata and the incident of child abuse at a renowned school in Badlapur, Thane, have sparked outrage across the country. To protest against these incidents and to raise voice for women's safety, women protested in Churchgate railway station area in Mumbai today.


Many women including women office bearers and workers of Prahar Jan Shakti Party participated in this movement. They united and raised their voice to convey this pain to the central government, state government and home ministry for the demand of women's safety. "Strong steps should be taken to immediately stop the incidents of atrocities against women," the protestors demanded.


These women requested the Chief Minister, Home Minister and the Central Government to enact stricter laws for the safety of women and reform the current policies. Due to this movement of women, there was tension in the Churchgate area for some time, but the police brought the situation under control.


The agitators said that there is a need to take concrete steps now for the safety of women in the country. He warned the government that if concrete steps were not taken for the safety of women, the agitation would be considered to intensify.
