"Union Cabinet Greenlights ₹14,903 Crore Expansion of Digital India Program"


The Digital India program, launched on July 1, 2015, with the aim of providing digital services to citizens, has garnered remarkable success.

In a significant move, the Cabinet, presided over by the esteemed Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given its nod to the expansion of the Digital India initiative. The total budget allocated for this endeavor amounts to ₹14,903 crores.

This expansion will facilitate the following:

  • Re-skilling and up-skilling of 625,000 IT professionals through the FutureSkills Prime Programme.

  • Training of 265,000 individuals in information security as part of the Information Security & Education Awareness Phase (ISEA) Programme.

  • Augmentation of the Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG) app/platform with an additional 540 services, complementing the existing repertoire of over 1,700 services.

  • Incorporation of 9 new supercomputers into the National Super Computer Mission, supplementing the existing count of 18 supercomputers.

  • Nationwide rollout of Bhashini, the AI-enabled multi-language translation tool currently available in 10 languages, to cover all 22 schedule 8 languages.

  • Modernization of the National Knowledge Network (NKN), interlinking 1,787 educational institutions.

  • Expansion of the digital document verification feature in DigiLocker to encompass MSMEs and other organizations.

  • Support for 1,200 startups in Tier 2/3 cities.

  • Establishment of 3 Centres of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence dedicated to health, agriculture, and sustainable cities.

  • Delivery of cyber-awareness courses to 120 million college students.

  • Launch of fresh initiatives in the realm of cyber security, encompassing the development of tools and integration of more than 200 sites with the National Cyber Coordination Centre.

Today's declaration is poised to invigorate India's digital economy, promote digital accessibility to services, and bolster the nation's IT and electronics ecosystem.
