In a historic triumph of courage and skill, a team of 12 women officers from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force has completed a monumental Blue Water Sailing (BWS) Expedition, setting a new standard for adventure and empowerment. Organized under the auspices of the Army Adventure Wing and Army Aqua Nodal Centre of the College of Military Engineering, this expedition marks a watershed moment in India's maritime history.
The journey, spanning from Mumbai to Lakshadweep and back, was not merely a voyage but a testament to the indomitable spirit of these brave women warriors. Facing the challenges of the mighty oceans, unpredictable wind conditions, and relentless heat, they navigated through 27 days of arduous sailing, showcasing unparalleled teamwork, navigational prowess, and adaptability.
Flagged off from Marve, Mumbai, on March 23, 2024, the expedition followed a rigorous four-leg route, encompassing ports such as INS Kadamba (Karwar) and INS Dweeprakshak (Kavaratti). Led by Lieutenant General AK Ramesh, Commandant of CME, the triumphant return to Mumbai on April 17, 2024, marked the culmination of this epic journey.
This groundbreaking expedition not only shattered geographical and cultural barriers but also fostered a deep sense of unity and camaraderie among the crew. It celebrates the essence of 'Nari Shakti' (women empowerment) and jointmanship, inspiring women across the globe to embrace adventure and challenge stereotypes.
Despite encountering myriad obstacles, these courageous sailors have not only made headlines but also etched their names in the annals of maritime history. Their journey embodies the ethos of resilience, fortitude, and sisterhood, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of all who dare to dream.
