"Transparency Gap: BMC Unable to Account for 4,000 Crore Expenditure Amid COVID Crisis"

In a startling revelation, Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal's claim of Rs 4000 crore expenditure during the COVID period comes under question as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) fails to provide details, as exposed by RTI activist Anil Galgali.

Galgali, seeking transparency, applied for a copy of the report submitted on the Rs 4000 crore expenditure. Shockingly, the BMC transferred the request multiple times, with each department claiming the unavailability of the crucial information. The bureaucratic run-around from the Commissioner's office to the Deputy Chief Accountant (Health) and further to the Deputy Commissioner (Public Health) highlights a concerning lack of accountability.

As corruption and irregularity allegations swirl around COVID-related spending, investigations by the central team and Mumbai police intensify. Simultaneously, the Municipal Commissioner's failure to disclose the details raises serious concerns. Anil Galgali, emphasising the gravity of the situation, demands the immediate publication of information regarding COVID expenditures on the official website.

The unfolding scenario underscores the pressing need for transparency and accountability in the utilisation of funds during the pandemic, adding another layer to the ongoing investigations into potential financial improprieties.
