Tragedy struck in Maharashtra Nagar, Mankhurd, as a 15-year-old boy, Prathesh Bhokse, succumbed to poisoning after consuming a pizza burger from a street vendor near Hanuman Chali on Monday night. Reports indicate that around 40 to 50 people fell ill, exhibiting symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea shortly after consuming the food.
This incident comes close on the heels of a similar case in Goregaon East, where several individuals suffered food poisoning after consuming street chicken shawarma just days prior.
Authorities have sprung into action, with the Trombay police station registering a case and initiating investigations. Social worker Sangeeta Kamble confirmed the police involvement.
In response to the incidents, the M Paschim Mankhurd Division Office of the Municipality has cracked down on street vendors in the area. All vendors have been removed, highlighting the need for stricter regulations and oversight in street food vending to prevent such tragedies in the future.
