Mumbai, A tragic incident unfolded at Mumbai's Versova Beach in the early hours of Sunday, resulting in the death of a 36-year-old man and leaving another seriously injured. The victims, Ganesh Yadav, a rickshaw driver, and Bablu Srivastava, were asleep on the beach to escape the city's oppressive heat and humidity when a speeding SUV ran over them.
According to police reports, Srivastava was abruptly awakened by a severe impact on his head and hand, only to witness the vehicle running over Yadav, who was sleeping beside him. The impact left Srivastava with serious injuries to his head and face, rendering him unconscious.
Witnesses reported that the driver, Nikhil Jawle (34), and his friend, Shubham Dongre (33), briefly exited the vehicle after the incident. However, upon realizing the severity of the injuries inflicted on the two men and the growing crowd of onlookers, the duo fled the scene in their SUV.
Emergency services rushed both victims to Cooper Hospital, where Ganesh Yadav succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Bablu Srivastava remains in critical condition.
The Versova police have since apprehended Jawle and Dongre, charging them with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, as authorities work to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic event.
