Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Shaikh has called for stronger action in a sexual harassment case at Nair Hospital. He stated that suspending the accused Associate Professor alone is not enough and demanded that Dr. Sudhir Medhekar, the hospital’s Dean, should also face suspension.
Shaikh expressed serious concerns over the Dean's role in delaying the investigation and ignoring orders from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). According to him, the Dean’s actions have raised doubts about whether the case was being handled properly. Shaikh urged that a thorough investigation, led by an independent IAS officer, should be conducted to uncover the truth.
“The hospital’s reputation and the medical community’s trust are at stake. The BMC must send a clear message that it won’t tolerate the involvement of senior officials in protecting the accused,” Shaikh said.
The MLA emphasized that this is a matter of setting an example for how future cases should be handled in the city’s public institutions.
