Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Textiles, addressed the World Spice Congress in Navi Mumbai from September 15th to 17th, 2023. He emphasised the importance of expanding the spice business through value addition to exports and asked industry players to collaborate to increase exports from $4 billion to $10 billion by 2030. He proposed that the 35 million people of Indian descent living worldwide be designated as brand ambassadors to encourage higher usage of spices worldwide.

Goyal urged the spice business to strive for inclusion and provide farmers with necessary production assistance. He also stressed the significance of developing a verified brand value for Indian spices. He expressed gratitude to the award recipients and hoped that they would maintain their outstanding performance and high standards to raise the bar in the future so that Bharat is recognised around the globe.

The Spices Board of India was commended for holding the Spice Congress after a seven-year gap and requested that it organise a world-class spice business exposition, symposium, and conference in Delhi in 2024. The minister commended the Spices Board for holding the Congress during India's G20 leadership and called for the restoration of the Spice Route and the celebration of the country's variety.

The 14th Congress edition brought together a varied group of delegates from several countries, including policymakers, regulatory authorities, spice trade associations, government officials, and technical professionals. Over 1,000 delegates from India and around the world attended the event, examining the difficulties and possibilities of the global spice trade. An experience zone was created for the World Spice Congress 2023, providing visitors with a hands-on experience in the spice cosmos.

The Spices Board of India is the primary organisation responsible for the development and international promotion of Indian spices. It serves as an international interface between Indian exporters and foreign importers and has been leading initiatives to improve the quality of Indian spices, including all segments of the business.
