The Mumbai Coastal Road Project celebrated a significant achievement today with the successful installation of the second giant Bow Arch String Girder, connecting the Mumbai Coastal Road to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Weighing an impressive 2,500 metric tonnes, the girder setup was completed at 6:07 a.m. following meticulous planning and execution.
Under the supervision of key officials including Municipal Commissioner & Administrator Shri. Bhushan Gagrani and Additional Municipal Commissioner (Eastern Suburbs) Dr. Amit Saini, the project marked another milestone in its progress. Notable figures from various organizations graced the occasion, highlighting the collaborative effort behind this achievement.
The successful setup of the first girder on 26th April 2024 paved the way for today's accomplishment, boosting the confidence of the project team. Despite challenges posed by limited space, engineers, officers, and workers executed the mission with precision, ensuring the alignment of the girders and adhering to strict safety protocols.
The second girder, larger in dimensions than its predecessor, spans a length of 143 meters and measures 31.7 meters in width and 31 meters in height. Manufactured at Ambala, Haryana, various pre-fabricated parts of the girder were transported via barge from the Mazagaon Dock on 12th May 2024.
The successful setup of the second girder signifies a significant step forward in the connectivity and infrastructure development of Mumbai, promising enhanced convenience and efficiency for commuters. The project now moves into the next phase, focusing on cement concretization and utilizing advanced Japanese technology to prevent rusting, ensuring the longevity and sustainability of the infrastructure.
