Mumbai: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) National Centre for Excellence (NCOE), Mumbai, is set to conduct open selection trials for men and women wrestling athletes on the 12th and 13th of September 2024. The trials will take place at the SAI Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee National Centre of Excellence in Kandivali (East), Mumbai.
These trials are open to athletes in the U-17, U-20, and U-23 categories, with specific weight classes for both men and women. Boys competing in Free Style must weigh 57 kg and above, while those competing in Greco-Roman wrestling are required to weigh between 65 kg and 130 kg. Female athletes in the Women’s Wrestling category must weigh 50 kg or more.
To be eligible, athletes must be medalists in state championships or have placed up to 5th position in National Championships or National Ranking Tournaments in the last two years.
Selected athletes will benefit from world-class coaching, tailored nutritional plans, top-quality training infrastructure, and competition exposure, including foreign opportunities for some. Additionally, they will receive educational assistance and access to medical facilities and scientific support, including strength and conditioning experts, physiotherapists, and psychologists.
There are 10 vacancies for Greco-Roman wrestlers, two for Free Style wrestlers, and two for Women’s Wrestling. Participants must report by 8:00 AM on September 12, 2024, at the SAI National Centre of Excellence, Kandivali (East), Mumbai. It is important to note that boarding and lodging will not be provided for trial participants.
Athletes are required to bring necessary documents, including their birth certificate, Aadhaar card, sports achievement certificates, educational qualifications, and two passport-size photographs.
