Mumbai, September 13, 2024 – Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Hon’ble Minister of Railways and Information & Broadcasting, visited Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) today to check the progress of important railway projects.
The Minister began his visit by paying respect to the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at CSMT. He also reviewed the redevelopment plans for the station, including a 3D model showing how the station will look after the work is completed. Shri Vaishnaw discussed the progress of this work with station staff and was keen to ensure everything is moving as planned.
After this, the Minister boarded the 14:34 Ambarnath local train, traveling in the second-class compartment. He spoke with passengers and media during the journey, sharing details about major railway projects currently underway in Mumbai.
Shri Vaishnaw announced that many projects worth over Rs. 16,240 crores are in progress, including the CSMT-Kurla 5th and 6th line, Kalyan-Asangaon 4th line, and Nilaje-Kopar double chord line. These projects are aimed at improving train services for the people of Mumbai and are expected to be completed between 2025 and 2027.
The Minister’s journey ended at Bhandup station, where he met railway employees, called them his "family," and took selfies with them.
Shri Mihir Kotecha, Hon’ble MLA of Mulund, and senior railway officials were also present during the visit. The inspection shows the government's dedication to improving Mumbai’s railway network for the benefit of local commuters.
