"Rahul Gandhi Demands PM Modi Respond to Adani Allegations Before G20 Summit"

Rahul Gandhi, a Congress leader, criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's

"unresponsiveness" regarding recent accusations against the Adani Group by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP). Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, where the Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A). In a bloc convened to deliberate on the 2023 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi stated that G20 leaders would likely inquire about the "unique company" linked to a person with close ties to the prime minister. He expressed, "As the G20 leaders prepare to arrive, they will undoubtedly question the nature of this particular company, owned by an individual closely associated with the Prime Minister. The query will focus on why, in a country like India, such favorable treatment is afforded to this individual."

Rahul Gandhi posed inquiries about the lack of investigation into the matter and the prime minister's silence regarding the allegations against the Adani Group. He demanded to know, "Why is PM Modi refraining from addressing this? Why is he not comprehending the gravity of the situation? A Joint Parliamentary Committee must be permitted, and a thorough investigation into the Adani issue is conducted. Although the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) conducted an investigation, it's perplexing that Adani received a clean chit. Something is amiss here." The OCCRP alleged that substantial amounts of money were channeled into publicly-traded Adani stocks through obscure investment funds based in Mauritius, fueling a dramatic surge in group stock value from 2013 to 2018.

Rahul Gandhi further probed, "The initial query pertains to the origin of this money. Does it belong to Adani, or is there an external source? The orchestrator behind this scheme is an individual named Vinod Adani, who happens to be Gautam Adani's sibling. Two additional figures are implicated in this intricate money maneuvering: Nasir Ali Shaban Ahli and Chang Chung Ling, a Chinese national. Hence, the second query emerges: Why are these two foreign individuals permitted to manipulate the valuation of a company that exerts significant control over Indian infrastructure?"

Highlighting the context of the G20 summit and its implications for India's global position, Rahul Gandhi emphasized the vital necessity of equitable conditions and transparency in the nation's economic landscape and business operations. He pointed out, "The G20 spotlight currently shines on India and its global standing. For a nation like ours, a level playing field and a transparent economic environment are of paramount importance. Notably, two prominent global financial publications have raised critical questions this morning. It's important to recognize that these aren't ordinary newspapers; they wield influence over investments in India and the global perception of our nation."
