Protest held at Azad maidan by the state level association of deaf.


The State Level Association of the Deaf (SLAD) in Maharashtra had organised a peaceful protest in Mumbai on 25th of August, to stand up for the rights of the Deaf community. Around 4,000 people have attended the protest.The government have assured today all the seven demands by the dead community as follows:1. that the government will create job opportunities suitable for Deaf people who may not have had advanced education. 2. That the government will follow a rule from 2007 that prioritizes profoundly Deaf individuals for certain jobs. 3. That the selection process for government jobs to be different for different job levels, making it easier for Deaf people to get some jobs. 4. That the emergency helplines to be accessible to the Deaf by providing sign language interpreters. 5. That re-assessment of people who got government jobs with fake disability certificates, replacing them with genuinely qualified Deaf individuals. 6. That the community aim to make Deaf schools safer by replacing male wardens with female wardens.7. That Deaf representation in government committees as per the law. SLAD believes these changes will make life better for the Deaf community in Maharashtra.The State government secretary of Social Welfare Department Mr. Sumant bangre also assured that within one week he’ll arrange a meeting with the chief minister of Maharashtra regarding the above mentioned demands.
