Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 18, 2024, for the G20 Summit, marking the second leg of his three-nation visit. After a "productive" trip to Nigeria, where he held talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and met the Indian community, PM Modi is now in Brazil, ready to engage in key discussions with global leaders.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) welcomed PM Modi's arrival, sharing images of his reception at the airport. On his official social media, Modi expressed his eagerness for the summit, stating, "I look forward to the summit deliberations and fruitful talks with various world leaders."
At the 19th G20 Summit, Modi will be representing India as a member of the G20 Troika, alongside Brazil and South Africa. The summit, set for November 18-19, will also be attended by other global leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden.
This summit is a significant moment for global diplomacy as it follows India’s successful presidency in 2023, during which the African Union was made a permanent G20 member and leaders managed to produce a consensus despite differences on the Ukraine conflict.
After the G20, PM Modi will head to Guyana for a state visit from November 19-21, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in over 50 years.
In his departure statement, Modi emphasized the importance of the summit, saying, "I look forward to meaningful discussions in keeping with our vision of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future.'"
