DUSTBINS ARE BEING ILLEGALLY PLACED IN FRONT OF INDUS SHELL TOWER SOCIETY’S GATE, CHEMBUR

On one hand, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation is running a "Zero Kachra" campaign and issuing strict warning to societies regarding dumping of waste and on the other hand, the authority of SWM (Solid Waste Management) of Mumbai Municipal Corporation M West ward , Chembur are illegally placing dustbins in front of the Society Gate without even informing the society which has given an increase in dumping of waste.

The matter regarding dumping of waste in front of the society’s gate is been going on from several years but the society haven’t got any relief from any of the respective state authority. This issue has aroused after the Dustbin was placed in front of one Society gate of Indus Shell Tower situated at Road no. 1, Shell colony, Near Samaj Mandir hall, Chembur due to which the Member society has expressed dissatisfaction towards the respective authority for illegally placing dustbin in front of the society gate.

The residence of near by area are also dumping their waste in front of the society gate because of which the place has became landfill and a mosquito breeding area posing a health hazard to the resident. There is also rat infestation and a pack of stray dogs hanging around, said the residents.

The member of the society have made several request to the near by residence especially the residents of slum area which is very close by to the society from preventing them for dumping waste in front of the society gate.

It is alleged that the residents of near by slum area has physically assaulted some members of the Society who were trying to stop them from dumping waste in front of the gate and made an false complaint in Nehru Nagar Police Station. The police officer called the chairman and secretary of Indus Shell Tower and told us to settle the matter peacefully as they were under the pressure of women activists. Further, the Police officer also assured the society members that they would help in resolving the issue.

The Chairman of the society met Smt. Chanda Jadhav who is the deputy Municipal Commissioner of SWM regarding the said issue and requested her to solve the issue. After the meeting, on the very next day the authority sent Mr. Tushar Kadam who is a member of the organization called “Dattak Basti Yojana”. Mr. Tushar Kadam assured the Society member that from now onwards he’ll look after the matter and requested the society member not to make any further complaints regarding the same.

Two days later, the Municipal Corporation illegally placed a big dustbin in front of the gate without even informing or taking any consent from the society members. The members of the society tried to contact the concerned authority but they failed to reply.

While the Municipal Corporation is running the "Zero Kachra" campaign with the aim to reduce the number of dumping of waste points in Mumbai, the society residents suspect that this new waste point has been set up illegally without even informing the respective authorities.

The Municipal Corporation is spending a handsome amount of money to prevent the dumping of waste and also appointed several NGOs to collect waste from door to door especially from the slum areas under the “Dattak Basti Yojana”.

Now the question arises that, even though the State is preventing dumping of waste from the City then how new dumping points are being made without even proper permissions?

The member of the society is looking forward to the removal of the dustbin which is illegally placed in front of the society gate and also seeking for an action to be taken against the respective authority for failing to perform their duty.
