MMRDA to Request Height Increase for Metro 2B Girder Following Citizen Concerns

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has assured citizens that it will correspond with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to increase the height of the Metro 2B girder at Halav Bridge from 3.50 meters to 5.50 meters. This assurance was given during a meeting held in Kurla's L division, which included representatives from the BMC, MMRDA, Kurla Police, and local citizens.

The current height of the Metro 2B girder has raised concerns among residents, particularly because it creates an obstacle for the transportation of Ganpati and Devi idols during Ganeshotsav and Navratri. RTI activist Anil Galgali highlighted that this issue might have been avoided if the route of Metro 2B had not been altered without consulting citizens. He called for transparency and proper communication with citizens when such changes are made.

Umesh Gaikwad, a local resident, strongly opposed the route change, citing the evolving geographical situation in Kurla and criticizing the tendency to overlook the needs of Kurla's citizens. In response, Municipal Officer Jeevan Rathod instructed MMRDA officials to address all the concerns raised during the meeting.

MMRDA Officer Dhotre assured the attendees that the authority would discuss the issue at a senior level and take appropriate action, including engaging with the Airport Authority to increase the height of the girder, which would alleviate the citizens' concerns and ensure safety for future metro operations.

The meeting was attended by Senior Police Inspector Ashok Khot, BMC Officer Nitin Deshmukh, and several other local officials and citizens who are directly impacted by the Metro 2B project.
