Mumbai, August 13, 2024 — In a shocking incident that has sent waves of outrage across Mumbai, a man identified as Ahmed Pathan was brutally attacked and killed with a sword by a minor in the busy streets of Shivaji Nagar on August 8. The horrifying attack was captured on video, which has since gone viral on social media, showing Pathan being repeatedly assaulted as he lay motionless in a pool of blood.
Despite the presence of numerous bystanders, no one intervened as the assailant, a minor boy, furiously attacked Pathan and threatened anyone who attempted to help. Pathan was initially waylaid by a group of 3-4 people, including the minor, before the attack ensued.
According to police, Pathan and the minor had a heated argument and a fight about two weeks prior to the incident. Pathan, who had criminal cases registered against him, was known to the accused.
Local residents have accused the police of negligence, questioning how such a gruesome crime could occur in broad daylight without their awareness or intervention. The incident has raised concerns over public safety and the effectiveness of local law enforcement.
In a related incident earlier this month, three individuals were arrested in Thane's Rabodi area for allegedly attacking a 40-year-old man, Wasim Qureshi, with a sword and knife over a past rivalry. The attack, which caused panic among locals, resulted in Qureshi sustaining injuries to his chest, face, and hand.
Both incidents have left the community in shock and have prompted calls for stricter law enforcement and more proactive policing in the region.
