Maj Gen Yogender Singh took over as Additional Director General NCC, Maharashtra, replacing Maj Gen YP Khanduri, who retired after a long career in the Army spanning three and a half decades.
Maj Gen Yogender Singh joined the Indian Army in 1988 after being picked by UPSC. He was commissioned into the 5th Battalion of the Brigade of Guards following training at the famed Indian Military Academy Dehradun. In his successful career spanning three and a half decades, he has held key command and staff positions. He has served on the front lines, in high-altitude areas, and in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir and the North East. On the Western Front, he also took part in OP VIJAY (KARGIL) and OP PARAKRAM.
leadership postings for the General officer include leadership of his unit, command of an Independent Mechanised Infantry Brigade in Punjab, and command of the famous RAPID Division in Rajasthan on the Western Sector. The General Officer has also served in the UN Missions in Ethiopia and Eritrea, as well as as the Director of the Operational Logistics Directorate at Army Headquarters in Delhi, where he played a critical role in mobilising humanitarian assistance under OP MEGH RAHAT during the September 2014 floods in J&K, and to Nepal under OP MAITRI in the aftermath of the April 2015 earthquake.
He is a graduate of the elite Defence Services Staff College in Wellington and the College of Defence Management in Secunderabad, and he has a stellar academic record. The General Officer is also an avid sportsman, having competed at the state and national levels in football and volleyball. He has also taught at the Army War College in Mhow and the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun. For his meritorious contributions, he received the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card and the UN Force Commander's Commendation Card.
