Kolkata: In response to the horrific rape and murder of a woman doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College on August 9, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has given Kolkata Police until August 18 to solve the case. Visiting the victim's family, Banerjee warned that failure to do so would result in transferring the investigation to the CBI.

Police Commissioner Soumen Mitra announced the formation of a special task force, expressing confidence in achieving a breakthrough soon.
