A Strong Partnership

The frigate is a part of the Krivak III class ships and has advanced technology for operations in the air, on the surface, and underwater. It is armed with BrahMos missiles, powerful anti-air and anti-submarine systems, and stealth features to make it harder to detect.

INS Tushil is also equipped to carry Kamov helicopters, which add to its strength in anti-submarine and surveillance missions. The ship can reach speeds of over 30 knots and is designed for long-range blue-water missions.

Singh praised Russia for supporting India’s goal of becoming self-reliant in defence and thanked them for their role in creating such advanced ships.

India’s Role in Maritime Security

The Defence Minister spoke about India’s leadership in keeping the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) safe and secure. “Our Navy stops piracy, drug smuggling, and other threats in key areas like the Gulf of Aden and the Malacca Strait. With INS Tushil, we are even better prepared to protect peace and free trade in the region,” he said.

A Milestone Moment

The commissioning ceremony included a Guard of Honour and the hoisting of the Indian Naval ensign. Top officials from both India and Russia attended, including Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi and Russian Deputy Defence Minister Alexander Fomin.

Admiral Tripathi praised the teams involved for their hard work in creating a ship with seamless integration of Indian and Russian systems.

Looking Ahead

Singh expressed confidence that India and Russia would continue to work together in areas like Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Space Exploration.

INS Tushil, commanded by Captain Peter Varghese, is now ready to sail and strengthen India’s role as a leader in maritime security. This ship is a significant addition to the Navy and a step forward in India’s commitment to peace, security, and development in the region.
