INS Tabar Arrives in Malaga, Spain for Strengthening Maritime Ties

Malaga, Spain – The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Tabar, a frontline stealth frigate of the Indian Navy, arrived at the port of Malaga on 25th August 2024 for a significant two-day visit aimed at enhancing bilateral relations between India and Spain. This visit marks another step in the ongoing cooperation between the two nations, which have shared diplomatic relations since 1956.

Commanded by Captain M.R. Harish, INS Tabar's visit underscores the importance of maritime security, a responsibility that Spain shoulders due to its extensive coastline. The visit is intended to reinforce the existing ties between India and Spain while exploring new avenues of collaboration in the maritime domain.

During its stay, the crew of INS Tabar will engage in a series of professional interactions with their counterparts in the Spanish Navy. These interactions aim to boost interoperability and allow both navies to exchange and adopt best practices. A highlight of this visit will be a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) conducted at sea between INS Tabar and the Spanish Navy Ship Atalaya, further cementing the operational relationship between the two navies.

INS Tabar is a key asset of the Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command, based in Mumbai. It is equipped with a versatile array of weapons and sensors, making it one of the Indian Navy’s earliest and most formidable stealth frigates. This visit to Malaga is a testament to the Indian Navy's commitment to fostering strong partnerships with navies around the world.
