New Delhi: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared major updates about Indian Railways during his address in the Lok Sabha on December 11, 2024. The focus is on improving passenger convenience, ensuring safety, and creating job opportunities.
Indian Railways is manufacturing 12,000 general coaches to help passengers who travel without reservations. This includes 900 new coaches already added this year, ensuring affordable and comfortable travel.
To make travel easier for pilgrims attending the Mahakumbh, 13,000 special trains will be run. This will help families, especially from middle-class and economically weaker sections, travel without stress.
The Amrit Bharat trains are designed for non-AC passengers, offering smooth and modern travel. Meanwhile, Namo Bharat trains will provide quick and frequent shuttle services between nearby cities, similar to European regional trains.
In the past 10 years, Indian Railways has built 12,000 flyovers and underpasses, removing all unmanned level crossings. This has made train travel much safer and smoother.
Indian Railways recently conducted exams for 1.26 crore candidates without any paper leaks. Over 1.3 lakh people secured jobs, setting an example for fair recruitment. A yearly recruitment calendar has also been introduced to make the process organized.
During Diwali and Chhath, Indian Railways ran 7,900 special trains, carrying 1.8 crore passengers smoothly, proving their dedication to festive travel.
