"Indian Cabinet Greenlights 2339 Km Multi-Tracking Rail Projects Worth Rs 32,500 Crore to Enhance

Capacity and Ease Congestion, Generating 7.06 Crore Man-Days of Employment"

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, headed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has granted approval to seven projects put forth by the Ministry of Railways. These initiatives, estimated to cost approximately Rs. 32,500 Crore, will be entirely funded by the Central Government. The proposed projects primarily focus on multi-tracking, aiming to alleviate operational challenges and alleviate congestion on some of the busiest segments within the Indian Railways network.

The scope of these projects spans across 35 districts situated in 9 states: Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Collectively, these endeavors will extend the existing Indian Railways network by 2,339 kilometers. Furthermore, they are anticipated to generate employment opportunities equivalent to 7.06 crore man-days for residents of these states.

These railway developments are critical for the efficient transportation of a diverse range of commodities such as foodgrains, fertilizers, coal, cement, fly-ash, iron, finished steel, clinkers, crude oil, lime stone, and edible oil. By augmenting capacity, these initiatives will contribute to an additional freight traffic volume of around 200 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA). Notably, railways are an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient mode of transport, aligning with climate objectives and working towards reducing the nation's logistics expenses.

These projects closely align with the Prime Minister's vision of propelling India towards self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat). This vision aims to create a skilled and versatile workforce within the region, boosting employment and self-employment prospects.

These projects have materialized as a result of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity. The realization of these initiatives has been made possible through comprehensive planning and will ultimately establish smooth connectivity to facilitate the movement of people, goods, and services.
