Mediterranean Sea, September 4, 2024 — The Indian Navy's frontline stealth frigate, INS Tabar, under the command of Captain MR Harish, has recently participated in the 22nd edition of the India-France bilateral naval exercise VARUNA. The exercise took place from September 2 to September 4, 2024, in the Mediterranean Sea, following INS Tabar's visit to Toulon, France from August 29 to September 1, 2024.

The Indian Navy's participation included not only INS Tabar but also the ship-borne helicopter and the LRMR P8I aircraft. On the French side, the exercise saw the involvement of FS Provence, the submarine Suffren, the Atlantique2 aircraft, MB339 fighters, and NH90 and Dauphin helicopters.

The exercise featured a comprehensive series of advanced naval operations, including enhanced tactical maneuvers, anti-submarine warfare exercises, air defense drills, live weapon firings, and photo-exercises. These activities demonstrated the seamless integration of assets across air, surface, and sub-surface domains by both navies.

Launched in 2001, Exercise VARUNA has become a cornerstone of the India-France naval relationship, evolving significantly over the years to boost interoperability and share best practices. This 22nd edition, conducted far from the Indian Ocean Region, highlights the Indian Navy's commitment to global maritime operations and the strengthening of maritime partnerships.

VARUNA exemplifies the dedication of both Indian and French Navies to enhancing interoperability through collaborative efforts. The Indian Navy remains committed to building strong partnerships with like-minded navies worldwide, further solidifying international maritime cooperation.
