New Delhi, November 26, 2024: India has officially launched a year-long celebration to mark 75 years since the adoption of its Constitution. The campaign, called "Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhimaan" (Our Constitution, Our Pride), began on November 26, which is observed as Constitution Day. On this day in 1949, India's Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution, which came into effect on January 26, 1950, starting a new chapter in the country's history.
The government’s campaign aims to honor the Constitution's framers and emphasize the important values it upholds, such as justice, equality, and freedom. It is also designed to raise awareness about the Constitution's role in shaping India’s democracy.
President Droupadi Murmu delivered a special speech to both Houses of Parliament on the occasion, marking the start of the celebrations. In her address, she highlighted the Constitution’s importance in protecting the rights of all Indian citizens and guiding the country’s growth.
Throughout the year, various activities will take place across the country, including in schools, universities, and government offices, to encourage people to learn about and appreciate the Constitution. The year-long celebration will conclude on January 26, 2025, during Republic Day celebrations.
