ICC Orders PCB to Cancel Champions Trophy Trophy Tour to PoK

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has directed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to cancel its plans for a Champions Trophy trophy tour to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This decision comes after strong objections from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah criticized the PCB's announcement, which included stops in cities like Skardu, Hunza, and Muzaffarabad in the disputed region of PoK. Shah raised the issue with the ICC, highlighting concerns over territorial integrity and political interference in sports.

The PCB had announced the tour would start in Islamabad on November 16, with the trophy visiting scenic locations in PoK until November 24. The trophy in question was the one lifted by Pakistan's Sarfaraz Ahmed in 2017.

ICC's Response

In response to BCCI's concerns, the ICC has asked BCCI to provide a written explanation for refusing to participate in the tournament if it is held in Pakistan. The BCCI had earlier stated security concerns as the reason for not traveling to Pakistan and proposed hosting all matches in Dubai instead.

The ICC wants to review BCCI's written reasons. If India does not provide adequate justification, there may be discussions about replacing India with another team for the tournament.

The Final Decision

With the tournament set to be held in February-March 2025, the ICC is under pressure to make a final decision. The situation remains tense as both boards stick to their positions. The outcome of this dispute will decide whether India will participate in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, or if other arrangements will be made.
