Mumbai: Shri Dharam Veer Meena, General Manager of Central Railway, awarded 12 dedicated railway staff members from the Mumbai, Bhusaval, Pune, and Solapur divisions with the prestigious Safety Award in a ceremony held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai, on November 12, 2024.
The award recognizes the exceptional alertness and dedication of these employees, who acted quickly to avert potential accidents and ensure the safety of train operations. Each awardee received a medal, commendation certificate, a citation of exemplary service, and a cash prize of ₹2000.
Mumbai Division
1. Shri Neeraj Kumar, Deputy Station Manager, Pen – On September 25, 2024, he noticed smoke in the 7th coach of a train, identified a metal piece causing the issue, and informed authorities, preventing a potential mishap.
2. Shri Vijay Kumar Srivastava, Motorman, Kalyan – On October 8, 2024, he detected a broken OHE wire at Diva station, immediately applied brakes, and notified technical staff, preventing a serious accident.
3. Shri Suraj Sonu, Khalasi, Igatpuri – On September 23 and 25, 2024, he spotted broken coil springs in two trains during rolling inspections, marking the coaches for repair and averting possible accidents.
Bhusaval Division
4. Shri Subandh Kumar Das, Pointsman, Panjhan – On September 18, 2024, he saw smoke from a train coach and informed the next station, where the train was stopped to fix the issue.
5. Shri Anil Kumar Singh, Pointsman, Bhusaval – On October 3, 2024, he noticed a fire in a goods train wagon, stopped the train with the station master's help, and ensured the fire was extinguished.
6. Shri Shavinath Faujdar, Keyman, Chalisgaon – On October 19, 2024, he observed a soil pit near the main line and alerted authorities, preventing a potential accident.
Solapur Division
7. Shri Lokendra Singh Bandela, Senior Section Engineer, Solapur – On September 11, 2024, he identified misaligned section insulators and ensured they were properly installed, contributing to a successful project outcome.
8. Shri Vikrant Kamble, Senior Section Engineer, Solapur – On September 24, 2024, he noticed an OHE wire issue in Hotgi yard and took prompt action to secure the rail traffic.
Pune Division
9. Shri S.S. Rana, Loco Pilot, Daund – On October 20, 2024, he detected a shifted trolley on a goods train and promptly reported it, averting a possible accident.
10. Shri B.L. Meena, Loco Pilot, Daund, and Smt Tanu Sharma, Assistant Loco Pilot, Daund – While operating a train on October 20, 2024, they observed signal issues at Yavat station and halted the train, alerting authorities to correct the issue, which prevented a potential accident.
11. Shri Santosh Kumar, Technician, Pune – On October 16, 2024, he identified unusual movement in a goods train wagon and found defective parts, alerting authorities to prevent a possible accident.
Shri Meena praised the staff for their alertness, saying these acts of bravery and dedication will inspire others to maintain the highest safety standards. Senior Central Railway officials, including Shri Prabhat Ranjan, Additional General Manager, and Shri Chandra Kishore Prasad, Principal Chief Safety Officer, were present to congratulate the awardees.
