The blaze was confined to wooden sheets, furniture, and construction material located 40-50 feet below ground at the Bandra East station, which is part of the Mumbai Metro Line-3 (Aqua Line). The fire caused heavy smoke to spread in the area.
Eight fire engines and several fire brigade vehicles were dispatched to the spot to bring the fire under control. Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, Adani Power, MMRC, PWD, BMC, and 108 Ambulance services assisted in the firefighting operation. Senior fire officials and a quick response team were also present.
The MMRC has yet to issue an official statement. However, in a post on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, it announced the temporary closure of passenger services at BKC station due to the fire near Entry/Exit A4. The post added, "Fire Brigade is on the job. For passenger safety, services have been paused. Passengers are advised to proceed to Bandra Colony station for alternative boarding."
The BKC metro station is part of the recently inaugurated Phase 1 of Mumbai Metro Line-3, which connects BKC to Aarey via the Aqua Line. This stretch was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and efforts are ongoing to restore services at the earliest.
