Mumbai With Maharashtra Assembly elections scheduled on November 20, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has set up an Electronic Media Monitoring Centre (EMMC) to keep a close watch on election-related news shown on TV channels.
The EMMC will monitor news telecasts on polling day and the day before. If any important or sensitive content is detected, the district election team will take immediate action. State-level and district-level media monitoring rooms have also been set up in Mumbai and other districts to assist in this process.
The monitoring will focus on incidents like violations of the model code of conduct or law and order issues. Reports from the districts will be sent to the ECI for further action.
A meeting about the EMMC was held at Mantralaya, where Joint Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Rathod gave instructions to officials. Key attendees included Information and Public Relations Director Dayanand Kamble and other senior officers, along with District Information Officers (DIOs) who joined through video conferencing.
