Mumbai: The BMC's Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) committee has criticized the Dean of Nair Hospital for hindering the process of a sexual harassment investigation. According to the committee, the Dean did not cooperate in a case involving a complaint filed by an MBBS student against an associate professor.

The student accused the professor from the pharmacology department of inappropriate behavior, including touching her without consent. The POSH committee found the professor guilty of harassment. However, they also pointed out that the Dean’s actions delayed the investigation and implementation of the law, calling his role "unfortunate and insensitive."

Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Rais Shaikh has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, demanding strict action against the Dean. Shaikh emphasized the importance of setting a strong example to show the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of women, especially students in medical colleges.

In his letter, Shaikh stated, “The Dean’s actions give the impression that senior officials are supporting the accused instead of standing with the victims. It’s crucial that the government takes firm action to show its dedication to protecting women and ensuring their safety.”

The POSH committee has recommended issuing a written warning to the Dean for obstructing the process.
