In a major initiative to improve passenger comfort and streamline train operations, the Central Railway has renumbered platforms at Dadar station. This change addresses the challenge of accommodating long trains and ensures a more efficient travel experience for commuters.
The renumbering was prompted by the inadequate length of the existing Platform 10, which could not fully accommodate 22-coach trains. This often left three coaches beyond the platform at the guard’s end, causing inconvenience to passengers and operational difficulties.
As part of the changes, Platform 10 has been renumbered as Platform 9A and will now serve only suburban trains. Meanwhile, Platform 10A has been renamed Platform 10 and is now exclusively allocated for mail and express trains, with sufficient length to accommodate long-distance trains seamlessly.
The new platform numbers became effective from midnight on November 27, 2024. The revised numbering system ensures smoother operations and better allocation for both suburban and long-distance services.
Here is the updated platform numbering:
Platform 8 remains unchanged as 8.
Platform 9 remains 9.
Platform 10 is now 9A (for suburban trains).
Platform 10A is now 10 (for mail/express trains).
Platforms 11, 12, 13, and 14 remain unchanged.
The Central Railway has emphasized that these changes will enhance passenger convenience, improve safety, and optimize train handling at Dadar station. This is another step in their commitment to providing efficient and passenger-friendly rail services in Mumbai.
