Raigad, August 27: The Maharashtra government has committed to taking all necessary measures to ensure that devotees traveling to Konkan for Ganeshotsav will face no inconvenience due to potholes on the roads. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has emphasized the government's commitment to making the Mumbai-Goa Highway pothole-free before the festival.
Chief Minister Shinde conveyed this assurance during an on-site inspection of the ongoing roadworks on the Mumbai-Goa Highway. The inspection began at Panvel, Palaspe, and concluded at the tunnel location in Bhogav, Kashedi Ghat. Accompanying the Chief Minister were Member of Parliament Shrirang Barne, Public Works Minister Ravindra Chavan, and several other key officials, including MLAs, Divisional Commissioner P. Velarasu, District Collector Kishan Jawale, and representatives from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Public Works Department (PWD).
To expedite the completion of roadwork and provide a permanent solution for potholes, Chief Minister Shinde highlighted the use of modern technology. Potholes on the highway are being filled using advanced methods such as the M60 RFC and LEO Polymer method, the Rapidex Hardener M60 method, and the DLC method. In some areas, the Bricks Cast M60 method is being employed, which involves using cement plates for road construction. These innovative measures aim to make the Mumbai-Goa Highway pothole-free and complete the remaining work as quickly as possible.
Shinde stressed the importance of coordination among officials from the NHAI and the PWD to systematically plan and execute the roadworks. He noted that specific methods are chosen based on the unique requirements of each section of the highway.
In a firm stance against negligence, Chief Minister Shinde has directed Raigad Superintendent of Police Somnath Gharge to file charges of culpable homicide against the previous contractors who abandoned the roadwork. This action underscores the government's commitment to accountability and public safety.
During the 155-kilometer road inspection, Chief Minister Shinde reviewed the progress of ongoing roadworks at key locations, including Palaspe, Gadab, Kolad, Mangaon, Lonere Phata, and Kashedi Tunnel, despite challenging weather conditions.
Concluding the inspection tour, Chief Minister Shinde urged all concerned officials to prioritize and urgently complete the remaining work on the Mumbai-Goa Highway. In a separate interaction, representatives from the Raigad Press Club submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, requesting the expedited completion of the highway.
With Ganeshotsav approaching, the Maharashtra government's efforts to ensure a smooth travel experience for devotees underscore its commitment to the safety and convenience of its citizens.
