Central Railway RPF Rescuing Children and Returning Lost Belongings


Mumbai: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Central Railway has been doing extraordinary work in protecting passengers and their belongings. Under Operation Nanhe Farishte, they have rescued hundreds of children, and through Operation Amanat, they have returned lost items worth crores to their rightful owners.

Operation Nanhe Farishte: Helping Lost Children

From January to November 2024, the RPF rescued 1,099 children (740 boys and 359 girls) who were lost or had run away from home. These children were reunited with their families with the help of NGOs like Childline.

Rescued Children by Division:

  • Mumbai: 379 children (242 boys, 137 girls)

  • Bhusaval: 247 children (141 boys, 106 girls)

  • Pune: 246 children (211 boys, 35 girls)

  • Nagpur: 168 children (107 boys, 61 girls)

  • Solapur: 59 children (39 boys, 20 girls)



In November 2024 alone, 124 children (78 boys, 46 girls) were rescued. The number of rescued children has increased compared to 2023 when 1,053 children were helped during the same period.

The RPF personnel, trained to handle such cases, counsel the children and connect them with their families. Many parents have expressed heartfelt gratitude for this compassionate service.

Operation Amanat: Returning Lost Items

The RPF also helps passengers recover their lost belongings. Between January and November 2024, they retrieved 1,491 items worth ₹5.22 crore. In November alone, they returned 157 items valued at ₹43.72 lakh.

Lost Items Retrieved by Division:

  • Mumbai: 649 items worth ₹2.55 crore

  • Bhusaval: 261 items worth ₹1.07 crore

  • Nagpur: 322 items worth ₹67.89 lakh

  • Solapur: 88 items worth ₹51.86 lakh

  • Pune: 171 items worth ₹39.73 lakh

This year’s performance has surpassed 2023, during which items worth ₹4.12 crore were retrieved in the same period.



RPF’s Motto: Safety, Vigilance, and Service

Beyond these operations, the RPF handles passenger safety, protects railway property, and deals with crimes and emergencies on trains. Their efforts reflect their motto: Suraksha, Satarkta, Seva (Safety, Vigilance, Service).
