Shri Naresh Lalwani, General Manager, Central Railway, presented the "General Manager's Safety Award" to nine Central Railway employees: two from the Mumbai Division, three from the Bhusaval Division, and one each from the Nagpur, Pune, and Solapur Divisions. The awards were granted in recognition of their awareness while on duty, contribution to preventing unfortunate situations, and guaranteeing safety in train operations from August to October 2023, during a celebration held on November 7, 2023, at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai. The award comprises a medal, a certificate of praise, a citation for exceptional safety efforts, and a monetary prize of Rs. 2000.
The Division of Mumbai
On September 28, 2023, Shri Dharmendra Kumar, Trackman, Vidyavihar, Mumbai division, while on duty, detected a rail fracture on line no. 6 at 20/300–400 kilometres. He quickly notified everyone involved. The approaching train was stopped and passed with caution, and the track was soon repaired. His quick thinking saved the day.
On October 9, 2023, Shri Rishikesh Kakde, Junior Engineer, Kurla Car Shed, Mumbai division, while on duty assessing EMU rakes, discovered a faulty Shaku Coupler in the 15-car EMU rake. The coach was labelled ill and disconnected from the rake. His quick thinking helped to prevent a grave disaster.
The Division of Bhusaval
While on duty on September 28, 2023, Shri Md. Ejaz Khan, Tower Waggon Pilot, Burhanpur, Bhusawal Division, discovered a buffer between the starting and advance starter signals on the same line. He quickly halted the Tower Waggon, notified everyone involved, and removed the barrier personally. His foresight and mental fortitude aided in averting a grave tragedy.
On September 11, 2023, Shri Arjun, Keyman, Mandwa, Bhusaval Division, saw gravel missing from below rails and two sleepers while on duty. He quickly notified everyone involved. The approaching Punjab Mail was halted at the home signal, and the train was passed with caution once the tracks were protected. His foresight and mental fortitude aided in averting a grave tragedy.
While on duty on 19.9.2023, Shri K M Patil, Dy. Station Manager, Kurum, Bhusaval Division, detected a hot axle in the 23rd waggon of a passing goods train during signal exchange. Because there was an upgrade ahead, the train was forced to halt at Mana station, where the waggon was labelled ill and the problem was resolved. His quick thinking saved the day.
Nagpur District
On October 2, 2023, Shri S. Raju Mallayya, Junior Engineer/Permanent Way, Ballarshah, Nagpur division, while on duty, discovered a rail fracture at the heel of the BKCMS crossing at Point No. 101 at Babupeth yard. He promptly notified everyone involved, and the situation was resolved. His quick thinking helped to prevent a grave disaster.
Division of Pune
On October 6, 2023, while on weld inspection duty on the Pune-Chinchwad section, Shri Shailendra Tripathi, Senior Section Engineer/Permanent Way, Pune division, spotted large rocks and stones maintained on the down line. He quickly prepared to transmit a caution notice to the approaching Nagercoil Express, cleared the track, and helped prevent a terrible catastrophe.
Solapur District
Shri A. Muthuswamy, Technician, Wadi, Solapur Division, spotted a damaged CBC coupling while on duty on August 25, 2023, during a rolling-in examination. He quickly told everyone involved that the waggon had been removed from service. On September 9, 2023, he discovered a damaged coil spring on another waggon that had been disconnected from service. His foresight and mental fortitude aided in averting a grave tragedy.
In his speech, the general manager thanked the honorees and praised them for their attention and devotion to their jobs. He stated that such acts of attention and bravery will inspire others to work diligently to ensure the safety of passengers.
