Central Railway condemned 138 Mail/Express coaches from April’2022 to June’2023 after its codal life and sent to scrap sale fetched earnings of 17.58 crore with an average earning of 12.73 lakhs per condemned coach
Central Railway ensuring safety and complying with Railway’s condemnation policy has condemned 138 coaches since April’2022 to June’2023 after their codal life of 25 years and sent to Scrap yard for auction after breaking at Kurla Coach Condemnation Yard.
•During last financial year 2022-23, total 79 coaches were condemned and scrapped including 14 AC coaches, the amount earned through the sale these 79 coaches were Rs. 11.71 crore.
•In last three months i.e from April 2023 to June 2023, a total of 59 coaches were condemned including 11 coaches were AC coaches, the sale of the scrap from this coaches fetched Rs. 5.87 crore.
•The decision regarding condemnation of a Coach is taken on age-cum-condition basis with maximum 25 years as its codal life. Apart from periodic annual overhauls, every coach is subject to a detailed examination before it is attached to a train and only those coaches which are safe to run are allowed in service.
•Over Mumbai Division, the condemned coaches are brought to Coach condemnation yard at Kurla after its successful auction procedure and broken into pieces with gas cutters by 20 – 25 staff working on it. These coaches are brought from CSMT, Dadar, Wadibunder, LTT coaching yard after condemnation. The scrap sale of this coaches fetches revenue, apart from that some good conditions coaches after their codal life are placed as Coach Restaurants etc.
•During the same period i.e from April 2022-June 2023, Mumbai Division of Central Railway procured 193 new coaches including 39 sleeper class coaches, 57 third AC, 24 Second AC, 8 First AC, 29 General Second class, 5 Pantry cars, 19 Luggage & Guards Breakvan and 6 Parcel vans.
*Mumbai Division of Central Railway active rolling stock which is utilised presently in various trains are a total 2278 coaches including 835 Air-conditioned coaches, 725 sleeper coaches, 525 General coaches, 60 Pantry car, 6 Vistadome coaches, 48 Vande Bharat Coaches and 79 other type of coaches.
