Bombay High Court Takes First Step Towards New Complex


Mumbai, September 23, 2024 – Chief Justice of India, Dr. Dhananjay Y Chandrachud, performed the groundbreaking ceremony (Bhumi Poojan) for a new High Court complex in Bandra East, Mumbai. Speaking at the ceremony in Bandra West, he emphasized that this marks the beginning of a significant journey for the Bombay High Court.

The event was attended by key figures including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Supreme Court Justices, and various officials from the judicial and government sectors. Chief Justice Chandrachud stated that September 23, 2024, would be a historic day, highlighting the court's legacy and its impact on various national spheres. He assured that the new complex would be accessible to all.

Chief Minister Shinde expressed pride in this historic moment, calling the ceremony the start of a new era for Maharashtra and Mumbai. He stressed that the judiciary plays a vital role in strengthening democracy and emphasized the principles of freedom, equality, and fraternity. The new building is expected to meet the increasing demands of the justice system and inspire future generations.

Shinde also acknowledged the need for speedy justice, stating that the government is committed to enhancing the judicial system. He mentioned that the state has approved the construction of 32 new courts and created additional judicial officer positions.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis celebrated the day as a joyful occasion for the state. He noted the historical significance of the current High Court building, which has been the site of landmark cases involving figures like Lokmanya Tilak and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He expressed confidence that the new building would continue to facilitate timely justice.

During the event, 383 E Seva Kendras were inaugurated across Maharashtra, along with the launch of the Bombay Digital Law Report, an AI-based search engine that will allow users to view court judgments in any language, enhancing accessibility and efficiency in the legal process.
