Mumbai: In a concerted effort led by Andheri West MLA Ameet Satam, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a vigorous campaign to remove illegal hawkers from 14 key locations in Andheri West. The areas cleared include prominent spots such as Andheri Station, SV Road, CD Burfiwala Road, and N Datta Marg. This comes as part of a continuous initiative to make these areas permanently hawker-free.

The action follows a joint meeting between BMC officials and the local Advanced Locality Management (ALM) group, facilitated by Satam. During the meeting, citizens voiced their concerns, presenting a list of 14 spots that have become notorious for illegal hawking and encroachments. Satam, known for his pro-citizen stance, has been actively advocating for the removal of such encroachments to improve public spaces and alleviate the challenges faced by pedestrians and motorists.

Speaking on the recent developments, Satam expressed satisfaction with BMC's actions over the past two days. "Our continuous efforts to rid these areas of illegal hawkers are yielding results. The BMC has been swift in its response, and we are committed to keeping the Andheri Station area and JP Road under constant monitoring," he said.

In addition to the hawker removals, Satam also highlighted the issue of illegal cooking on roads, which has been addressed as part of the recent action. He emphasized that the broader aim is to ensure a clean and organized environment for residents.

The MLA has assured that his office will continue to work closely with the BMC to address other local concerns, including parking issues and other forms of encroachment, in the coming weeks.

This initiative has been welcomed by local residents, who hope that these efforts will lead to lasting change and better management of public spaces.
