BJP MLA Ameet Satam Urges Police to Ensure CCTV Installation in All Schools and Colleges for Safety

Mumbai, August 23, 2024 –BJP MLA Ameet Satam has urged the police to ensure that all government, government-aided, and private educational institutions in Mumbai, including ICSE and CBSE schools, are equipped with functional CCTV cameras over the safety of women and students. Satam, who represents Andheri (West), has written to Raj Tilak Roushan, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Zone-9, requesting the installation of adequate surveillance systems in the campuses of these institutions.

In his letter, Satam highlighted the recent incidents of crime against women in various parts of Maharashtra, which have caused fear and panic among residents. He called on the police to intensify their vigilance and patrolling, especially in the Andheri (West) area, to maintain public safety. To ensure compliance, Satam recommended that a dedicated police officer be appointed to conduct physical inspections of schools and colleges to verify that CCTV cameras are installed and operational.

"The safety of our students and women is of utmost importance," Satam said. "The police must ensure that all BMC schools, state government-aided schools, and all ICSE, CBSE, and international schools, as well as colleges, have enough CCTVs on their campuses in working condition. Additionally, a police officer should be deputed to visit all educational institutions to ensure compliance."

Satam's appeal follows a recent state mandate requiring all educational institutions to install sufficient CCTV cameras for the safety of students. He stressed that the cameras should provide real-time data to help prevent any untoward incidents.

Apart from enhancing surveillance in educational institutions, Satam urged the police to take strict action against anti-social elements, such as those involved in drinking on the streets, drug peddling, and drug consumption. He also called for stringent monitoring of social media platforms to curb the spread of unverified information, which could cause unnecessary panic among the public.

Satam further emphasized the need for an increased police presence on the streets and urged police station staff to be more public-friendly and responsive to incidents. "It is crucial that the police are approachable and take swift action to maintain law and order," he added.

The BJP MLA’s suggestions come at a time when the state government is focusing on enhancing the security infrastructure in educational institutions to safeguard students and staff, thereby ensuring a safer environment for all.
